Our history
In 2014 we celebrated our 25th anniversary. During our history we have trained over 50,000 people in circus arts.
On 11 March 2014 Circus Space changed its name to the National Centre for Circus Arts.
The National Centre has played a significant role in major public events from the millennium celebrations at the Dome to the Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies in 2012.
Our further and higher education programmes range from a BTEC qualification (in conjunction with Hackney Community College) to a Post Graduate Certificate and a BA (Hons) Degree in Circus Arts. We are an affiliate of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama alongside 7 other prestigious institutions* that are leaders in performing arts training.
Our graduates work around the world with companies like Cirque du Soleil and Les 7 Doigts de la Main. At home we have worked with some of the UK's most reputable companies including the RSC, Roundhouse, ENO, the V&A and the National Theatre.
The programmes of small to mid scale venues such as Stratford Circus and Jackson's Lane feature circus arts regularly. Many of the performers in these productions are our graduates and professional members.
We support the development of youth circus nationally, with 17 companies from around the country taking part in the National Youth Circus Event in 2013.
As the National Centre for Circus Arts we are taking a leading role in supporting the wider circus sector in the UK, creating opportunities for circus to be seen and for people to participate in training at all levels.
