Circus performer for schools tour with Halfpace Theatre

The Show

Science Circus are looking for a performer to join an upcoming project combining planetary and space science with circus arts, in preparation for a schools tour.
We will be embarking upon an R&D funded by Arts Council England, the UK Space Agency and the Royal Society of Chemistry, with industry and school sharings along the way.
The show (still in development) will be a fun, informative piece teaching KS3 students (ages 11 – 14 years old) and their families about Exoplanets, the Plato space mission, and more! The tour also includes a space science workshop and a CPD session for teachers.
The Role
We are looking for a male-presenting performer with skills in acrobatics, object manipulation (juggling preferred, but open to poi/staff/etc), and acting. We’re open to other circus / physical skills instead of or in addition to this list, as we will be building the project alongside the performers. Our other performer is an aerialist – some basic experience with aerial silks or rope, eg climbing, is an advantage but this can be taught if necessary.
We are especially eager to find someone who would be comfortable facilitating science workshops alongside the schools performance during the tour (workshop around 2 hours, performance around 1hr). Paid training for delivering the workshops will be provided ahead of time, so no science experience is necessary, just a passion and an interest in learning.
Applicants should be available for all R&D weeks in London: 18 – 29 January, 22 February – 5 March, and then performances 24 May and 16 June in Wokingham (travel provided). Further touring is planned from autumn 2027 onward.
The role will be paid at £650 per week (pro rata for day work).
How to apply
If you think you would be a good fit please send the following to science.circus@proton.me by 27 October at 10am.
– A short statement on why you’re interested in the project (max 1 side of A4 or 2 min audio / video)
– Your CV
– Video links to previous work
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an online video interview, with an in-person audition to follow in London on the morning of Friday 13 November. We also have an optional (funded, but not paid) team building outing to the National Science Centre Space Lates in Leicester on the evening of Friday 20 November which we hope the successful applicant would be able to join.
